How aggressive is aggressive?
I saw that on Dr. Caldwell's list of Stomatopods for the aquarium, the gonodactylaceus graphurus is listed as "very aggressive" under the cohabitants section. Is that very aggressive in the sense that all mantis shrimp are very aggressive, or is it abnormally aggressive even for a mantis? Anybody have any experience keeping a g. graphurus?

For its size, it is a powerful, aggressive species. They are also very colorful with several interesting color morphs. Unfortunately for aquarist in the U.S., they are mostly found in Australia and therefore do not find their way into the U.S. market.

That's too bad to hear. Still, when I set up my next mantis tank, I'll see if my supplier can't find me one of the Indonesian persuasion. I really love the coloration on the specimen in the topmost picture on your g. graphurus page. It's absolutely stunning. You must have been really excited to find that one.
