Flow rate from Sump to Display tank

How much flow rate do you have from sump to your display tank? My flow rate from sump to display tank is 650GPH to my 75Gal display tank from 30Gal sump. Whole water circulates 9 times in an hour. Is it too high flow rate? I heard from my friend it might be better to have 1.5 - 3 times circulation in an hour.

Mark,
I love my avatar, too. =)

It sounds like 9 times is too much. What do you think?

Mine is around 4 times per hour, you could just add ball valve to reduce the flow.

I already have the ball valve between sump and display tank. The reason I have 9 times per hour is that I thought this is the best flow rate.
Is there any demerit to have high flow rate like me?

Some people will say that you will not skim all of your return water, but who cares, the skimmer will skim as much as it skims regardless.

I think a big negative would be noise, but if thats not an issue keep it like it is. Thats the main reason, or I guess the only reason, I like lower flow through the sump.

I think its fine. I have similar flow on my 65 and my fuge grows like crazy. I have a ball valve to my skimmer to slow it down though. Besides that I do have a ball valve on my return also but it is almost all the way open and my pump puts out around 600-700gph at the head I have. People always recommend slower flow through the fuge but my flow is pretty fast compairably, but its worked for me so I haven't changed it.

I actually think many people have to slow of a flow through the fuge and thats why many people claim there cheato just dies on them. I don't think its getting fed enough nutrients. But thats just my opinion.

I like 3-5x/hr through the sump, primarily to minimize noise, then provide additional circulation in the main tank through either power heads or closed loops.
