Want to see something scary? **NSFT**

Last night, my wife called out from the tank room, "Your worm, it's so big!" I was feeling pretty good about myself until I say this guy...

I pulled it out of my seahorse tank. It's over 18" long and about as big around as my small finger. Despite what some of you might believe, it is not safe for my tank. The bristles look like hypodermic needles and I could practically see the venom dripping off of them. I'm a surgeon by trade and to get inadvertently stung by this guy could cause me some serious problems. Does anyone have an ID? It would be cool to know what it's name is.

I saw it's head a couple of times at night but I could never get it out. By the time I found my tongs it was always gone. I had no idea how big it is. I'm thinking about selling it to my LFS as a coral "snake."

I wish I knew its name, but did it bother any of your horses?
How did you happen to acquire such a specimen?

It must have come in on my rock; which apparently was harvested from Bikini Atoll.

It never seemed to bother my mating H. reidi. There is also a Mandarin and some other invertebrates in the tank that were apparently unaffected by it. The fact that they were all ok, suggests that it really was a detritovore. At that size though, I couldn't, in good conscience leave it in the tank without worrying about it taking some of my livestock.

Bristle worm for sure. "Fire worm" or maybe "Hell worm" are better names. I wasn't going to poke my finger on it to test it out. I'm wondering if anyone knows the genus and species. I'd like to look it up.

Personally, I would put that in a jar of whiskey and try to preserve. Something that huge and nasty deserves to be admired every once in a while

Holy smokes, that gives me the creeps! However, I agree with Buddhakiss, preserving it would be cool. You could then take it into work and set it on your desk, and since you're a surgeon, you could allude that you removed it from a patient!! (and the patient is doing well now!) You never know what you'll find when you do a tummy tuck!
