4 year old salt...
im planning to start a new fowlr tank
20 gal, just a dsb, lr and chaeto i found old salt in my storage area. maybe 4 years old already. is it still ok to use this to start this? or just use old water from my established tank? |

If it was sealed, I would say absolutely.
If it was open, I'd probably toss it. Either way, it might not hurt to mix up a gallon and test it's parameters to be sure.

was it ever opened? If was opened, it's probably like a brick by now. If it is, I would not use it.

it's not going to mix correctly the minerals have gotten wet and are no longer the same as new, the calcium will have disolved a bit, the ph and alkalinity will most likely be off also
