Can i host a Monti Cap?

hey RC, just wondering if i can host a montipora capricornis in my 24g AP? i have the compact lighting system.(aka hood) 32W SunPaq Dual Actinic and one 32W SunPaq Dual Daylightcompact fluorescent lamp, and Nocturnal Blue Lunar Lights. I've read around and heard that its somewhat possible, but i just want to hear everyone else's suggestions. Also, is it possible to host a bird's nest as well?

I would give it a try. Try up high and mod flow. There both tough corals and you shouldnt have a problem.

From what I've read, you may be able to keep Monti Cap's if they are on the very top, but it will probably be just surviving/or slowly dieing under that little of light.

Birdsnest, I really doubt it. I wanted to have some in my new tank with 6 X 54w on individual reflectors and I don't think I would risk it.

Someone else might tune in though with some experience with them.

and theres the bad advice i wasnt looking for. lol i wanted more positive outlooks :P lol jk im glad there is another opinion. just hoping to get some more so i can make my final answer:P

I tried with my 2 bulb 65w 30"CF fixture in a 46g no success.I know it's not what you want to here but i tried twice no luck.

Might as well try it out... both are hardy, inexpensive corals which do not demand much light. You may not get the best coloration, but will probably be able to keep them alive.

btw... Whoever mentioned they had 6x54 watt T5's w/ individual reflectors and was questioning Bnest corals.... I had 6x54w T5's w/ individual reflectors on a 24" deep tank, and the PAR readings from the T5's smoked 250w halides.

6 t5's should grow anything under the sun and then some. I dont think people are giving t5's enough credit for their output. Im currently growing monti caps and birdsnest under 4 t5's in my 29g and they are all showing good growth. The key will be your calcium/alkalinity and stable SG.
