Hight to hang T5s

I was going to hang my 72 inch Current USA 12x39W Nova Extreme Pro. How high above the tank should it hang? I have heard 4'' and 7''.

you should be fine with 4-6" off the water. more importantly high enough so salt spay doesn't get on the reflectors

edit: or splash shield in your case

3" is fine. The higher off the tank, the cooler the tank, but the more the light has to travel.

Also, higher mounted lights are usually cooler, as more air is allowed to circulate underneath, cooling the bulbs and further extending their life.

However, I believe, higher mounting = higher wattage. If you have more watts than you "need", mount it higher. If you budgeted the right amount of watts, anywhere between 3-4" is perfect.

For instance, if you buy a fixture with legs, it's going to be about 3" off the tank.

go about 3" off the tank which will equate to about 4" off the surface.

On my retro, the lamps are about 3" from the water, I would've went closer but the wide braces on 180s, I felt would've cast a wicked shadow. Only downside is I did have an unfortunate instance where I got salt creep on my SLRs and they are stained pretty bad, looks like I be ordering more SLRs...

With the splash shield you have, the closet the better, you can always raise them to access the tank, but again with the tank you have shadows could also be cast to watch that.
