Gauchos 120g Build Thread
Ok so it might be a little early and I dont have my camera at the moment as my dad wanted to take it to maine with him but I ordered my sand today and should be moving my tank in tomorrow. I have had this tank taunting me for almost a month now as I have been sleeping on a friends couch waiting for my lease to start. Im am going to try and implement my running cost for things I buy I have tentatively sold my 40g breeder setup for $350 and paid $450 for the 120g setup +100 lbs live rock. Unfortunately I wasnt able to keep the rock all that live as I didnt have a poweroutlet in the garage I was storing it. Oh well getting 100lbs of semi live rock for free isnt a bad deal either.
Here is a list of the setup for my 120 120g RR corner overflow 29g sump with ASM gsm3 skimmer and rio return 48" sunpod 2 x 150w fixture 2 seio 820 powerheads 1 koralia 3 powerhead 2 2 little fishies media reactors About 6 misc 48" single bulb fixtures 100lbs of once live rock (was live when I got it, not so much anymore) $450 120lbs Special Reef Grade Aragonite $118 shipped Tomorrow I am going to order the Ocean + Reef RO/DI unit from the filter guys should be another 250 with shipping. -450 -118 -250 +350 (from 40g breeder) ---------------- $468 As for future plans I need to let the tank cycle then I will add a CUC. I am probably going to drive down to bluezooaquatics and pick up a CUC down there to save on shipping. I have a pair of ocellaris clowns that have hosted my buddies anenome so he going to give me the anenome and I have a royal gramma. I also have a trumpet coral that has been thriving but I might just give it to my buddy or atleast have him hold on it until my tank get a little more established. Also at some point I really want to get a MP40W as I am in love with that kind of flow in a tank. Thanks for stopping by and I will be updating soon when I get some pics up. |

Ok so here is an update, the tank is up a running beautifully. I finally got my camera back from my dad and got some pictures taken. I also just ordered an Ocean Reef +1 RO/DI unit from filter guys so the total looks a little something like this
-450 (tank +everything else that came with it) -118 (120 lbs reef special sand) -238 (RO/DI) +300 (from 40g breeder) ---------------- $506 spent so far =/ could have been far worse Also here is a list of the livestock. 1 runt false perc 1 gold stripe maroon 1 blue tang 1 copperbanded butterfly 1 royal gramma ~8 heads of blue mushrooms 1 skunk cleaner shrimp 4 red leg hermits 3 turbos * I had a pair of clowns but my buddy has a 24 nanocube with an anenome that they hosted and he traded me his 2 clowns and his tang which I am perfectly ok with

Nice Start, I am not in favor of the rock work, maybe you can try a open valley look.

Just a suggestion but I would remove the LR from against the glass as it makes it a PITA to clean the glass, even for the CUC. It looks good though Goodluck and enjoy

So a little update I added a CUC from reefcleaners and got 7 green chromis. Sadly only two of the chromis are left as they had intragroup aggression. I will get some pics up in a few days.
