what is LE ?

i mean i know it means limited edition, but yu see that word being used so often, and how is it LE if 50 other web sites have it f\s or 20 other members have it f\s ? is it LE because you have limited amounts f\s ?

I think it all stems from Steve Tyree.

There are several people/companies out there that make "LE" limited edition corals. They find one they really really like and that is rare, and make it a LE. Upscales has done this, i.e. Oregon Tort and of course Tyree, i.e. Tyree.......a bunch of varieties.

It's really nothing more than a marketing gimmick to get people to pay more

Yup. One of my favorite examples is the LE Green Polyp Toadstool. I've seen small, very small, frags of "Tyree LE" selling for over $100 per frag. Over my years in the trade I've sold many full blown colonies at whopping retail of $29.99 to $39.99 depending on size. Even the small colonies could yield a couple dozen frags every few months.

Limited Edition of course, why should we not believe that investing big money into a "limited edition" coral will ensure that this coral cannot be grown out and divided up so that more people can enjoy? lol

I'm not kidding you when I say EVERYONE in the state of Colorado has one of those in their tank.....or 4. Dunno why it's an LE when it's so freakin' common.

Yes, indeed. And they are not really "limited" as anyone can propogate them and trade, sell, or give them away.

Loosely translated, LE means expensive...whether the extra cost is justified or not.
