Exclamation Need Leather help ASAP!!! PICS

We've had these leathers since we first started the tank up a few months ago. Yesterday all the leathers in the tank did not expand at all (they stayed shriveled up as they do at night). Also a colt coral looked to be disinigrating so I pulled it out.

Today the leathers are still shrivelled up and another colt coral is starting to disinigrate.

We're really worried about the leathers releasing toxins into the tank and harming other corals. Can we please get your advice!!!

Heres a pic of the tank before this started...

And Now....

Thanks for the help!!!!

I forgot to mention that the leather in the 2nd and 4th pic is a frag from the colony in the middle, and for some reason this is the only one not affected by whatevers happening???

Leathers will do that. Then they'll possibly shed a mucous coating and look even worse. I noted that your other corals look OK so I would recommend waiting it out.

To make yourself feel better check parameters, do a water change if necessary and add some carbon to the system to remove organics.

My initial reaction is to say they are alright. Leathers tend to go through periods when they don't look so good, but they usually rebound. The Euphyllias in the pic look ok, so I would guess the water quality is good....

thanks for the ease of mind guys!

We've only been doing 20G water changes every month on the tank and everything was doing great. Tomorrow we're picking up a couple 55G food grade drums so we can start doing 40G water changes. We'll do one asap and hope for the best

Leathers in my tank kind of "hibernate" from time to time. Have had hem look horrible for weks at a time. All of a sudden open up one day and look better than they ever did before.
Think I read somewhere once that bristle worms will eat colts. Think they work on the base.
Changing (or starting to run ) some quality GAC probably wouldn't be a bad idea just in case any toxins are being released.

You guys were right!

they have just started to shed a mucus lare and are starting to return to original color.

2 colt corals still mysteriously withered away though?

could be corals fighting each other with chemicals. maybe running carbon would help

Exactly ! You didnt say if you are running carbon or not. Get some Marineland Black Diamond Carbon or Bulk Reef Supply Carbon and run it in a reactor. Leathers are very toxic to other corals and each other at times. You can counteract this by running good carbon.
