Qt of new corals and fish.

Im still working o buying stuff for my 90 gallon tank and I know I want to QT everything before I place it into then tank. I am re-framing a 55 gal to use as a QT for the fish. I am going to run 250 watt radiums on the 90 and was wondering what people thought would be a good idea for a tank for QTing corals?

Small halide nano? Ideas?

I dip but don't qt corals. Probably should. I do put them in one of the downstairs frag tanks for a week or two to observe them for parasites, stn, etc. and acclimate them before putting them into the displays. But these tanks are in an integrated system with the displays although remotely located. Any tank with good flow temp and sufficient lighting should do for a week or two. If it's longer say 6 weeks for ich cyst insurance , you'll want to pay more attention to all parameters. No feeding will be going on so nutrients ought to be relatively easy to manage.

I'd say just go for a 4 bulb 48 inch T5 fixture. You can get them pretty cheap now and they are good enough I believe for what you would be using It for!

re: coral QT

I don't QT corals but dip them (like Tom).
Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure is the dip I use but it's probably ineffective against certain pests which I (very fortunately) don't have: AEFW, monti nudis, red bugs etc.

QT is a good thing. I would think you'd need at least a 10 gallon to QT a coral.

I use TMCC, sometimes revive for the most part for dipping my own corals that I move tank to tank. SPS and some lps gets an interceptor with lugols or tmcc. Softies and zoanthinds also get a freshwater soak.

That's about it. I also use flat worm exit , just a drop or two in a quart of water will do for flatworms and any potetnial effect on zoanthidae and montipora nucibrachi.
