SSB vs DSB

What are some pros and cons of each..I know there is very mixed opinions on this subject but I cant decided which one I want to go with. Im currently in process of switching my crushed coral out and replacing with sand bed. Wish I didnt have gone with crushed coral in the first place nothing but problems.

IMO the best way to do it, is to have a SSB in your display for aesthetic reasons only, and then a remote DSB in your fuge, or some people even do one in a separate 5G bucket so you can disconnect and maintain the sand without disrupting your system. Not to mention, then you've still got the benefits of the DSB without having to take up half your tanks real estate.

The only downside to DSB's that i've heard of is that over a longer period of time they can start causing nitrate problems because of how they trap gas or something to that nature.

No, a DSB itself does not need light.

I like the Shallow sand bed in the display and the Deep sand bed run remotely.

How big does a remote DSB have to be relative to the size of the tank? I always hear that RDSB's don't work well because of the size constraint, especially within a 5 gallon bucket.... Are you going to get any benefit with a RDSB in a 5 gallon bucket on a tank bigger than a 30g?
