How long do you light the glass box?

Well just like the title says how long do you have your aquarium lighted up? Do you have your lights on for 6, 8, 10. hours...etc..

Im currently running my MH for only 6 hours a day with no attinic supplement. Is that long enough? I have heard some people doing 8-12 hours, should I adjust my timer for a longer photoperiod?

Any suggestions is welcome, and im sure this has been asked a 1000 times.

my photo period is as follows
noon actinics go on
1pm MH 175 14K
8pm MH off
9pm actinics off

my corals seem to do pretty well with that setup. I also run a 24hour period for my fuge and one day off

2pm 175w 20k halide on
8pm halide off
8pm-2pm moon lights via RKL controller
Fuge light on while moon lights are running.

Thinking of adding a small PC or a single T5 actinic just for an hour before and after the halide for a bit of dawn dusk effect.

Surge,
