Moving tank questions

Am going to be moving my tank from a 65 gallon to a 110 within the next few weeks (am hoping) so I just have a few questions

- can I use my current sand after I wash/rinse them as a DSB in my sump/refugium (will keep 1 cup for seeding)

- would I need to rinse my live rock in freshly made salt water before moving them to the new tank (the rocks has a lot of sponges on them)

If you have a DSB already you'll need to really clean the sand if you want to reuse it. Rinsing the current live rock in new salt water will help remove detritus. And if you want to keep the sponge don't introduce the rock to air keep it submerged, the sponge won't survive if you don't keep it under water.

I would transer the live rock from one tank directly to the next--then there will be next to no cycling. You then can start to add extra live rock by about 5 to 7 lbs a week with minimal cycling.

If you rinse off the live rock then the corraline will probably also die---the sponges are harmless IMO

how old is the original sand?

the sand is about 4 years old. As per the current setup it's only a SSB in the display tank.

I'd use new sand with only adding a little of the old sand to seed the new since the sand is over a year old.
