Need new return pump
I currently have a mag drive 9 on my 75 gal tank returning water from the sump. It is about 3 or 4 years old and is now making all kinds of rattling noise and isnt stopping. Figure its time for a replacement. Anyone know of any equivalent but quieter return pumps? Its also a bit noisy so something quiet would be nice in the upgrade.

Mag pumps are very efficient and my Mag 9.5 is considerably quiet. If your not looking to add more gph, I would try to trouble shoot the pump. It may just have deposits on the internals or have a broken impeller. Try running it in a vinegar solution and inspecting the impeller. It may be a really simple fix to restore the pump. Just an idea...

I gotta vote for an eheim as well. one of mine (a 1262) is 20+ years old - other than the occasional cleaning, I have never done anything to it and it is still going strong.

I've owned at least 7 Eheims (for various tanks and equipment....1250, 1260, 1262 models) and never had a problem.
I can't hear the 1262 running on my 85g tank. I've seen many "need a return pump" threads and overwhelmingly Eheim is recommended. The only situation I wouldn't recommend Eheim is when you need a pressure pump. Let's say you have a 1/2" return bulkhead but really need 3/4". I would go for a pressure rated return pump rather than Eheim. In a 75g system, the 1260 or 1262 should be perfect.
