GX-4100 issues

I have a GX-4100 on my Euro-reef RS-180 that was working OK until it died tonight. Every night when I turned it back on after feeding, it stuck and I had to reach my hand in the sump and turn the impeller manually but I heard this was a common issue, and it had a not particularly well done mesh mod that was getting in the way anyway (bought it that way) so I suspect some of the mesh was causing a problem.

Anyway, tonight when I went to turn off the skimmer and pump before feeding, I realized that the skimmer was already off. Upon reaching inside and trying to turn the impeller like I normally do, I realized it was stuck. I pulled it out and looked closer and tried using pliers to get the impeller assembly out but just managed to pull the clear disk (where the "needles" used to be) off the magnetic cylinder. I can feel the pump vibrating slightly and trying to turn it so I know that's not toast but I cannot pull the magnet out. I know it's tough to get out, but I know it's not this bad! Any ideas? TIA.

Soaking in vinegar and water has not helped.

tried getting a new impeller? Maybe the magnet is shot.

Finally got it pulled it to find that it is horribly scored, both the magnet and the shaft of the pump. And the magnet might be toast but unfortunately that's not the issue in this case because it's binding on something, although I'm not sure what.
