Filtration/ Overflow

I have had a nancube in the past. My wife (before we where married) got into the hobby at about the same time. We made a BIG mistake and went with undergravel filtration. We now want to go to a sub/refug system.

I know I need and overflow box as my tank is not drilled. Is there a diagram that would include all the needed parts IE skimmer pumps Wavemakers ECT. The tank we have is a 30 gal and we will be upgrading soon. We would like to set up this system as a trial before we upgrade.

Then integrate it in to the new. Or possibly use it as a reef only/ quarantine tank. If this is a bad dea, please advise as well. We would like to do it right as we have already done it wrong.

Thank you all for any assistance and advice you can provide.
