Exclamation Help with Mag 9 pump

I have a mag 9 pump as a main on my 75g saltwater reef it's been in service for about a year and a half now. Lately I've noticed deminished flow rate.I've check the rest of the system for obstructions My question is could this be a worn impeller? would buying a new impeller help or is it a waste of time? should I get a new pump and be done with it?

Thanks

Could be a worn impeller... Have you taken the pump completely out and cleaned it inside and out lately? If so then the cheapest option would be a new impeller.

Also soaking everything in vinegar will help dissolve any calcium deposits that may be disturbing the impeller during operation.

When I used to run Mag pumps, They were decent pumps but prone to Calcium build up. What would happen is that the ceramic shaft would eventually seize its self to the magnet part of the impeller. I would suggest that you remove the impeller cover and carefully diassemble the impeller assembly Noting how things come apart.. If the shaft will not rotate freely then you will need to give it a vinegar bath. Soak the shaft/impeller assmbly untill the shaft becomes free.
