help me out guys
Looks like I picked up a mild case of Ich from some new frags I bought a few weeks ago. I'm setting up a 29g hospital tank to treat, my question is which treatment to use. I've ruled out hyposalinity and would like to treat with copper or some other treatment like Rid Ich+. All I seem to be able to find is Coppersafe and RidIch+ at my LFS. Are either of these appropriate for the following fish...Flame Angel, Tomato Clown, Royal Gamma, Six Line Wrasse, Diamond Goby, and a baby Red Sea Sailfin tang. Any input is appreciated...

I was unaware that you could get ick from corals. Looks like ive learned something today.

i personally have never heard of frags transfering ich to fish but maybe im wrong......i know of people who have used coppersafe with great results and some said it did nothing.....it's really hard to say most people believe all fish have ich and when stressed it shows up.....i personally just leave them be and feed them well with some supplemented vitamins and garlic and most pull through, without incident...... now black ich i have only had luck with fresh water dips.....

Frags, and most anything that came out of a tank or the ocean, can bring parasites into your tank. Its not super common, but unfortunately it does happen.
I would treat with Cupramine by Seachem, it is by far the safest copper treatment. Just make sure you get a copper test kit that will check for free AND total copper. Cupramine is a bound form of copper, which is what makes it safer to use than other copper medications, but not all test kits will read levels properly because it is bound. Seachem's copper test is a good choice.

I am also worried about my Flame angel as I have heard they do poorly with copper?

Many people successfully use Cupramine on lots of sensitive fish, including Centropyge spp. I have treated several Centropyge angels with Cupramine and have never lost one or seen any problems.

I just throw old pennies in my tank when I get ich....kidding I use cupramine in my QT. Dont forget your tank needs to be fallow for 6 weeks after treatment. Sounds like alot of fish for a QT if its the size of most QTs...
Ich can be transferred in on corals. If it doesnt find a host fish soon though it will die off...

Cupramine it is then...Tank will be fallow as well...Has anyone used silica sand in their hospital tanks when treating a diamond goby? I've done some research online and it is supposed to not absorb copper like aragonite or other sands but still keep sand sifters happy while in treatment.

I agree with the above statments: Cupramine is the way to go IMO. I treated 18 fish in a 180g I borrowed from a friend while I left the DT fallow for 8 weeks. Never lost a fish and had several copper sensitive species. It's good stuff!

i'm going to assume you already had ich in your tank and something has stressed the fish to a point of being susceptible.

No, tank was ich free. Ich was introduced into the tank via infected Aussie Tuskfish. I always QT my fish but didn't in this case for various reasons and as luck would have it I got burnt. I tried to ride the ich out but it got very bad and I lost a fish to it. As luck would have it my buddy had an empty 180g I borrowed for 8 weeks.
