Galaxea growth question
I am a newb when it comes to LPS so whatever assistance u can provide is greatly appreciated.
I have my Galaxea frag on the sand bed and it seems to be happy. The sweepers come out and it has good tentacle expansion. My question is will it encrust its tile and then encrust the sand or do I have to move it against a rock so it can encrust it? Thanx, Joe |

I would think it would need to be up against a rock for it to encrust. Sand is not very stable, there's nothing really for it to grab ahold of. If the particle sizes varied, some were the size of CC perhaps, then I could see it building on that.

Be careful with those tenticles, their a stinger!!! I have a small frag as well, and it will most likly encrust onto a rock. I have mine shoved inside a shell...

Mine encrusted to rock. It also prefers high light and pretty strong flow. I have two in my reef at different spots and the one towards the top grows twice as fast as the one in the middle.

Thanx. Your input helps me to get the Galaxea where its happiest. I now have it glued to the end of tonga branch live rock and have moved it closer to the light. Hopefully it will continue being happy and encrust the tonga branch. It has sent out sweepers so I am guessing its happy because it sent sweepers to defend its position. I hope my assumption is correct.
Thanx, Joe |
