Should I feed the frag tank from return or overflow?
Setting up a frag tank running off the same water column as my display tank. Should I feed the frag tank from return or overflow? There is a lot of wasted water energy from the overflow and though it would be good to use. The question I had was since the water will be food/nutrient rich is that a good or bad thing? Would it be best to T is off the return so it gets fresh return water?
Same thing for the chiller. Is it bad to run off the weir/overflow? thanks AAron |

I would do it from the return, your overflow will probably result in a lot of bubbles in the frag tank.

I feed mine from my return. I actually used a spider-manifold (from online spa part supplier) off my over-sized return to feed the frag tank, the chiller, my external skimmer, and a secondary manifold that then feeds a phosban reactor, carbon reactor, and deNitrate reactor.
This way I was able to eliminate a number of individual pumps in my sump and still get enough return flow to the main tank. |

If you are looking for nutrient export out of your fuge then feed it from the overflow before the water hits the skimmer otherwise you are feeding "clean" water from your skimmer to the fuge and it won't be as effective.

His question was feeding the frag tank, not the fuge
