wave making

Hi everyone. I am setting up a 220 tank. I purchased 4 Koralia 3. What I would like to do is set them up as a wavemaker. At the LFS there was a power strip that had the capability to turn on and off 4 plugs. Each could be set to turn on and off down to a 1 minute time. So, I was thinking of the right side on for a minute or so, then to the left side. My concern is, how would the Koralia's hold up turning on and off a 1000 or more times a day. My present tank (72 bow) I have 2 in there that run continuously. All thoughts or ideas would be very helpful . .thanks everyone

THe standard Koralias arent designed to be turned on and off. THat being said, some people do, I have a single nano on a timer and its doing ok. The alternative is the kralia controlable powerheads and their timer, but that will set you back about 400 bucks, so at that point you may want to look into vortechs.

If you are going to try they koralias on a timer, look up the mod for them that uses airline hose to limit the chatering when they start up.

Ill mimic what 'user' has already said.

Ive read the constant "full power on", then "power off" can cause the K's to be noisy as well as wear out quickly.

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about.

If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke.
My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott.
I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner.
Have a great day but most of all, have fun.

I tried to hook my Koralias up to my Red Sea wave maker. It drove me nucking futz! Each time they turn off and restart, they make a very loud clunking chatter. It is because the power is cut off 100% to the powerhead. I am told there are some wave makers out there that reduce the power to a very minimal level, yet still keep the powerhead spinning at a very slow rate. This is supposed to stop the startup chattering with Koralias.
