getting a nano 12 deluxe

Hi. I'm new to SW tanks, and have just purchased a nano cube deluxe (12g). I've been reading a lot about them on the web, & there are MANY different opinions on them...What I'd like to know is: What will I need to do to get it ready? I live in the keys, & our 9 year old wants a tank he can bring home some of the creatures we run across daily. Can I get my sand & water for start up right here in our natural waters? Do I HAVE to get this stuff froma LSF? ANy help would be appreciaed. Thanks.

Just don't do anything illegal!! I think the answer you will get here is that you can do all of the above as long as you are doing it in a remote area away from pollution, and as long as it is not being done in an unlawful way. Good luck!

No problem about the legality! I'm a very strong believer in protecting the natural beauty of my home & all our resources! I've had FW tanks most of my life, but now the jump to SW has brought on many, many questions. We decided on the nano cube because the deluxe model comes with everything we might have had to purchase separately. The purpose of the tank is to allow the 9 year old to bring home some of the awesome creatures we find, watch them & enjoy them close up & then release them back... Just wondered what we might need to do this as efficiently and safely for all involved.

Sounds like a great idea! That's a very broad question though and no one will likely be able to lay it all out for you in response to a single post. Spend an hour a day over the next week or two reading posts on RC. When you've done that, then post with a specific question. Good luck!

What kind of live stock? its illegal to collect most corals in florida, as far as fish ivertabrates and sponges you need to go to the department of fish and wildlife to find out what you can collect. There is a huge fine, and they can and will arest you if they catch you collecting illegal species or collecting without a should be ok as long as your not going to the fish store and buying expensive fish.licence. If you are going to keep things that don't require alot of light I would buy a 55 gallon tank from walmart for $165 it includes heater filter top and lights. using nsw to do water changes Here is the website for florida fish and wildlife.http://myfwc.com/marine/recreational/recharvestmls.htm
