aptaisia problem

Hi I have a major problem with a aptaisia i have about 50 of them in my 100gl tank i have tried Joes,juice and aptaisia x but they did not work. So I have a few question on what should i do. Should i buy all new rock or get some Berghia nudibranchs to eat the aptaisia. The problem with getting the Berghia nudibranchs is they cost a lot of money. What i was thinking is taking the rock out of the tank boiling it then letting it dry in the sun then curing the rock again. Now if i do it that way when i cure the rock would i need a piece of live rock to seed the rock. LMK witch would be best thx

I would use wild caught peppermint shrimp. Mine tore through the aptasia in my tank.

+1 I had about that many in my 29 gal biocube and they have eradicated them in my tank. I did have to use joes juice on the bigger ones then the shrimp took care of the pieces joes juice left behind.

I didn't believe it, so I just bought one for my 125g to see how it would make it. Within 10 days I had about 8 or 12 aptasia disappear.

I bought a copper band that tore through my aiptasia problem. There isn't a single aiptasia in my 125 now.

I'm a fan of Peppermint Shrimp too. They did a great job in my tank.

Try 1ml of Lime Juice from the grocery store. Squirt right above each one. Lime juice is more acidic then lemon juice.

If you want to get more drastic and have alot on a few rocks then you can boil the rocks for 30 min let them cool then put them back in the tank. The rock will be toitally dead, but will come back to life in a few months.

I'm getting ready to try some pepp shrimp as well in my tank. A couple weeks back I decided I was going to use kalkwasser mix and squirt my aiptasia every single night until they were all gone. It seems the more I nuke, the more appear almost like they go into survival mode and start spawning everywhere. I'm with you though, these things drive me CRAZY, they have been pestering me since I got into this hobby 2 years ago.

Thanks for all the help guys are wild caught peppermint shrimp different than peppermint shrimp. I bought a few peppermint shrimp few months back but after a week of being in the tank i never saw then again they were really small ones. I was thinking about getting a copper band but i was reading they don't get along with a yellow tank witch i have in the tank now. I may try some more peppermint shrimp see how it will go. If i do take the rock out of the tank to boil it i would need to cure it before i put it back in the tank right? Also will i need to seed the rock with a piece of liverock while i am curing it?

Peppermint shrimp are the way to go. I've heard issues of them not eating the aiptasia but I think the issue is more that the shrimp weren't peppermint shrimp. I put two in my tank and I had several rocks that were covered with aiptasia I have a total of seven left in my tank and this is in less than a weeks time. They are mowing the things down.

There is also another option I saw but I have no personal experience with this creature. They are called Berghia Verrucicornis Nudibranch. My understanding is they die after the aiptasia is gone as it is there only food source. Here is a link to info on them.

And then lastly here is info on the butterfly fish. I understand they can also eat coral but there is mixed reviews on that topic. One thing everyone has said is be careful what fish you keep them with as they can be aggressive.

Also, what will Butterfly fish eat after wipes through Aiptasia. This may be why people keep this fish for 4 months on average before they die. Use the peppermint to control small or new aiptasia. Use Aiptasia Control by Blue Life or Joe's Juice to kill big ones. Squirt it close to the head of the Aiptasia using the syringe in the box. The aiptasia will absorb the kalk mixture and implode within seconds. Again, Peppermint Shrimp to control small & new ones, but for larger ones that peppermint shrimp may not eat, use the above products. IMO associated with research on this particular subject.

I have heard there is two species of peppermint shrimp,one will eat aptasia and the other won't.I bought 4 for my 120,and guess what,they won't eat them.There is a differance in them,I don't know what it is.

I have same problem with aiptasia, they are getting really big, I've tried joe's juice which didn't work infect it came back with more. I've just put some peppermint shrimps to see it that will work...keeping my fingers crossed.
