Cheato Harvest
Hi,
I have heard that I should cut back my cheato in the sump. I have a 100gal sump and its packed to the top. Is it a good idea to trim it? Thanks Ed |

If it is so packed that no light gets to the bottom and it isn't growing anymore, I would get rid of some. I usually split mine in half and sell or give away half.

Thanks Reef Ninja
... I will cut some back. BTW: I seems my alk is running on the low side (8) and some hair algae is growing. Would a low alk cause or help the hair algae to grow? Thanks Again Ed |

Probably not, check for phosphates. Do you use RO/DI water? You may also be seeing hair algae because you have not been trimming back your chaeto. If your chaeto has no room to grow it will not be taking excess nutrients out of the water & you will sometimes see algae outbreaks.....
