Where did you set up your RODI?

HI guys,

I have a 34g system on the second floor of my house and carry all the fresh new water (bottled in 5g containers) from the first floor.

Well Im about to upgrade to a 100g + system and really dont see the point of upgrading unless I have a way of making and disposing of all the water right from the second floor.

Would it be a good idea to set up a RODI on a bathroom under the sink and have it shut of and just turn it on when water is needed?

Any ideas?

Sure anywhere you can get "tap" water you can make RODI water. Just need to make sure you have a place to store this water for when it is needed.

Also, make sure your second floor can handle the 1000 lb weight of the tank/plus water/stand, etc.

I have mine hooked up to my sink, and once I make about ten gallons I just turn it off and disconnect it, and store it under my sink I have the model from BRS

I have mine under my bathroom sink.... fwiw... be sure to put ur bucket or whatever in the tub or have a shutoff for filling up jugs... i have flooded my floor a few times... 1 time left it running for like 5 hours in a 5 gallon bucket, woke up to my smoke alarm going off because the water went through the floor, through the insulation to the ceiling below, getting water in the smoke detector.

or put an auto shutoff on the unit and stick a float valve in the lid of your bucket.

Mine is in the washroom, the "waste water" drains directly into the washer.
When it is full we do a load of laundry.

Waste not want not.

Mine was under the sink upstairs until I forgot about it and flooded it a few times. I the water leaked out of the bathroom into the room next door soaking the carpet and carpet matt. I had to take a razor blade to the carpet to cut it in one area and pull it back to dry the wood underneath before it leaked downstairs. The carpet still looks like crap, I could never fix it properly.
Now I have my RO/DI hooked up in the garage to the water heater. The cold line of course..

So my best bet would be to set up the RODI in the loundry room downstairs and just have a long hose and a pump to pump the water upstairs everytime I need it?

Can you drink the water from the RODI?

I believe you can get an alarm type thing that lets you know when the water is getting to a certain level. I think they are called screamers.

I'm in the same boat, only I'm going across the basement instead of up a story. Run an extension cord from the pump up through with the hose, put a portable outlet switch into an outlet somewhere upstairs, and plug the extension cord into that. That way you can control the pump from upstairs with the flick of a switch.
