Brown Algae issue
I have had my reef tank setup for about 6 months now. My system parameters are : nitrate: 0 nitrites :0 Phos :0 calcium 500 PH: 8.0 alk : 7.2 ammonia : 0 I have a brown thread like algae in clumps that sit on the sand bed and no where else. I have been manually removing the clumps but wanted to know why this is happening and how to get rid of it permanently. Thanks for your help.

pictures would be nice....... but i had a type of cyano once that looked like regular cyano except it was brown, and had long strands coming off of it and they grew progressively more red the farther along the strand you looked. sound like it? or maybe its diatoms?

some time when removing algae you can spread it around the tank. when you grab a clump of it chances are many tiny pieces of it get kick up in to the water and reseed them self. try turning off the filter and power head so there is no water movement and take some out the pay close attention to were you just took it from. If there are little pieces of it suspended in the water there's your problem. a Siphon may work or some type of snail or crab.
