should I use these? help?
I got four sponges that look to be brand new along with my 24gNC, and am trying to decide if I should use them or not? the tank is cycling (or will be once the rock is added) currently, btw...
should I do it? I dont see any harm in it, and I dont have anything else I can use to clear up the dust from the sand... |

the main reason people dont like filter pads and sponges is because they can build im nitrates (if i remember properly). now, if your tank is cycling your going from ammonia, to nitrite, to nitrate. seeing that the end result is nitrates, then filter sponges are good for right now. if you leave them in too long you could have nitrate problems in your established tank, which isnt good. but for now, why not.

they are OK later too, if you clean the pads/ sponges regularly i use filter pads to trap bigger particles

I use filter pads also. Just replace or clean them often.
