A friend can't keep clams in his reef and sees a lot of bw around them.

What you are more than likely seeing is them scavenging an already dead or dying clam. THere are a few species of bristleworms that are predatory but it is highly unlikely you are going to see a swarm of them.

B-worms do like to hide under clams but if the clam is healthy, they shouldnt be a problem.
