After 19 years you haven't figured it out?
I personally keep my tank 1.024 - 1.026.

There is a poll in the chemistry forum, currently on the subject. Go check it out.

I keep mine at 1.026 specific gravity verified by a refractometer. I used to keep it at 1.022 as my LFS suggested and I had some problems with my corals I bumped it up to 1.026 as most suggest on this board and they have been doing great for the last 3 years.

Reason most reef people keep theirs at 1.026 is because thats the SG of natural sea water and corals like it best. Fish only systems can run around 1.020.

there are various salinites in parts of the world. Mixing ASW to 1.026 means more calcium, mag, Kh, etc for stony growth.

I try to keep mine closer to 1.027-28 to maximize concentrations of calcium, alkalinity and trace elements.

I keep mine above 1.025 to reduce stress on the fish and inverts.

![]() Going by that the area our corals/fish from (SW Pacific in general) is 35ppm or 1.026. Hence where I keep mine. PW
