I like the Eheim Feed Air Automatic Fish Feeder, Model 3581. If the price is over $40, go somewhere else.

+2 on the eheim. My only complaint with it is it can dump a serious amount of food if you're not careful with the opening in the food chamber. Set it just large enough to fit the largest food piece through.

The Eheim is definitely a good feeder. Another one that I rather like is the Rondomatic 400. It's a rather unique design with individual dispensers to add food. . .or just about anything else that will fit in them. It's a bit big, but it can be useful if you want to feed a variety of foods, and/or precisely control the amount of food that goes into the tank. If you don't have a specific need/desire for that particular type of feeder, I'd go with the Eheim, though. Truthfully, I tend to shy away from feeders, but these are a couple of the better ones I've seen.
Here's a link to the Rondomatic: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...64&pcatid=4464

I've only used a couple different auto feeders for a brief moment... what makes the eheim feeder so special?

I find the Eheim to be very reliable and user friendly. Also, it seems to do a decent job at keeping the food from soaking up too much moisture, which was definitely important in Florida. Of course, that said, I've only used mine a few times, and I've only used two other brands. So, all I can really say is that I was happy with the Eheim.
