How are you silencing your external overflow?
I have a DIY external overflow that works beautifully.
![]() The thing that I hate about it is I put the gate valve on to "shrink" the drain til the water drains without sucking. If I dial it in just right, the water flows silently over the center baffle that devides the utubes from the drain compartment. I can fine tune it til the water level in the drain compartment is about 1/4" below the baffle. This makes for beautiful, silent operation. Obviously the problem is in the gate valve. I would much rather have the drainline wide open. For some reason I keep having to tweak the gate valve to keep the water level in the overflow constant. Sometimes it gets too hi and the tank volumn increases...which gets my ato flowing which lowers my sg. Sometimes the water drops and gets noisy. Is there a contraption I can put in my drain compartment so I can keep the gate valve wide open and not get the noisy sucking drain sounds?
