Do i need R/O water for a 5 gallon copepod and amphipod breeding tank?

hi!

I am setting up a five gallon copepod and amphipod breeding tank so i can try to succeed in keeping a mandarin in a nano tank. my question is, can i use regular tap water and a salt mix to make the water for the breeding tank? i use RODI water for my main tank but i wanted to know if it was necessary to spend the money on it for the pod tank. the only livestock in the tank will be live rock, various macro algaes, and the pods. so can i just use regular tap and a cheap salt mix?

thanks a lot and any suggestions about breeding them will greatly help!

i am very new to reefing so i am assuming that my Dt is my main tank? and isn't five gallon in one shot a little extreme? i do 2 gallon water changes weekly and if i do 5, my corals and anemone will be exposed to the air...?

dt = display tank. i would just use tap if ur trying just to grow pods. just let it sit for a day b4 using or add some declorinator to the water.
