Dead rock question

Well my question is, is it possible for completely dead rock to have something living on it once its placed into your tank? All I have right now is rock that was dry, so theres currently nothing live until I get some live rock. However I was looking at the rock and there are some very small parts of one of the pieces that appears to have something red and green growing on the top of it. Maybe its just part of the rock but it doesn't appear to be and I didn't notice it at all a few days ago when it went in.

Your rock will still contain some life, but not nearly what it originally had. If i were you i would just buy a couple of lbs of quality live rock, too seed the rest.
