Angry Coral Banded Shrimp ate my Peppermint shrimp

Yes. I just saw my coral banded shrimp snacking on my peppermint shrimp.
It made me sad cuz my peppermint shrimp is my first shrimp. *sigh*

I know he's been snapping on my two shrimps every time they get close by, but I'm not so sure if he killed my peppermint shrimp or my peppermint shrimp died and he just ate its carcasses?

Any thoughts?

I had my coral banded one week after I got my peppermint shrimp.. since then no murdering has happened until now, even when I added my cleaner shrimp...

Now I'm scared that he might eat my cleaner shrimp... I love my cleaner soo much..

All shrimp shed their shell, when they do that all of the other shrimp know that and try to seek them out to eat. They can hardly move right after they shed.

Coral Banded Shrimp are extremely aggressive toward other shrimp. They will even attack your hermit crabs and snails. If he is a large shrimp he probably just murdered your peppermint. They are great for eating bristle worms. They will play the roll of a cleaner and clean your fish. Some Corals Bands you get can be wonderfully reef safe.

But...others will destroy any other shrimp or crustacean population and some will even destroy your corals by nipping them open to steal there food.

Every where I have seen says they are reef safe. You really have to be lucky to get one that is.

My coral banded just ate two of my Green Chromis that were added to the tank the night before - put in 8, 6 the next morning - Shrimp's stomach is blue.

Need to figure out a way to catch the little guy.

now he is full, so a trap would probably be quite hard. After he digests, try making a normal inverted bottle trap with something that has a much bigger hole, like a gatorade bottle.

If you want to avenge him, just put in an arrow crab, but then you will have to deal with having an arrow crab. I like CBS, but they can get nasty.

I had one and woke up one day to see one of my fish in his claws.. he was sold on craigslist the next day.. They are notorious for killing shrimp, snails, crabs.. they stick those claws down into those shells and chop chop..

Wow! I'm a little shocked. I never knew they were so aggressive. I have a fire cleaner shrimp and a skunk cleaner shrimp. The skunk cleaner shrimp goes about the tank with no fear. But the fire shrimp is always hiding on the back side of the rocks. The fire shrimp is determined to keep the skunk shrimp out of its space whenever it gets close.

I've been wondering about adding peppermint shrimp in with my CBS...now I won't risk it. The CBS doesn't seem to bother the hermits, emerald crabs, or snails in the tank...but I've often wondered when it looks more like it. He does do an odd dance for food though - bounces around the tank trying to eat as much as possible...

i've got a coral banded that's got a span of 6+ inches between its claws. i've never seen it chase anything down, but it will go after anything that gets too close to it, including my hand.

i have a CBS, a peppermint shrimp, a blue porcelain crab, a emerald crab, about two or three dozen hermits and a couple dozen snails. All this in my 20 gal, i also have a huge Condy nem about 6-10 inches across. i have no problems with any of them really fighting with each other and i have had no problems with them picking at any of my rics or shrooms.

That will be an expensive snack for the CBS - just a matter of time...

My CBS hasn't harmed anything yet that I know of and he is a pretty big guy. I did add a peppermint and cleaner shrimp shortly after the CBS and I am missing the cleaner shrimp. The peppermint is still doing fine, but like I said the cleaner disappeared. Now it could have been the cleaner didn't acclimate well and therefore died off or the CBS could have done it. I have no evidence though.

My Coral Banded Shrimp has claimed one fire shrimp, one cleaner shrimp, 3 peppermint shrimp and one camel shrimp. I've learned to stop wasting money on snacks for him xD
