CPR Bakpak with biobale and preskimmer

Does the blue biobale in my CPR bakpak trap nitrates, and if so, do you recommend removing it?

Also, I have the preskimmer box that fits around the pump, with a sponge that prevents fish from entering, but also traps detritus. If I rinse my sponge everyday in tapwater, is that good enough to prevent it from being a nitrate trap?

Thank you for your help!

The biobale would compete with liverock because bacteria that colonize the biobale also eat organic wastes.

Preskimmer box is good to take off scum and oil from the water's suface.

Rinsing sponge is good and is good for trap prevention.
