Water Storage

I have read many things but wanted to know what is best to use as a fairly large storage tank for staight RO/DI water and then one for Saltwater. Thanks

I use the plastic brute trash cans that you can pick up at Menards, Home depot etc.

They come with a lid and if you get the ~ 40 gallon size you can get a dolly cart to fit to the bottom that allows you to wheel it about once it's full. My RO unit is away from the tank so easy moving of stored water is a need for me.

The above is a good idea, but if you don't want to hold that much water, any plastic container will do. I'm in the process of building a DIY overflow/sump/ato. The sump will be 10-20gal, and I'll be able to flow up to 600gph through the system. I'm going to use a smaller tub with a lid from Walmart or somewhere to store water for the auto top off.

I opted for a bit larger 100 gal and around $70 use this as my holding tank with a Magdrive 250 for circulation. A little more costly but tried the trash can option and somehow after a week or two ended up with a hole in one of the cans. So I opted for this as they hold quite a large amount depending on your setup. I flow my RO DI water directly into it and it works great for me and has a plug drain at the bottom which I fitted with a ball valve in case I need to empty it or hook a pump to it to flow to my tank which is at the other end of the house.

Ok i guess i should explain my situation a little more but it sounds like the brute cans may be the good way. I live in an apartment with a roommate and I plan on hooking my RO/DI up to our washer connection and I am gonna store the water in a closet that is in a hallway and my tank will be in my room. I realize there will be a little bit of hauling water when I need to do my WC or when I need to refill my ATO reserve

You can find the plastic food grade 55 gallon blue drums for $20 if you search around locally

You can get those brutes at any hardware store like HomeDepot or Lowes.

I am not sure how much room you have for these, but on craigslist I found some 275 gallon square totes with a metal cage (and can be stackable) for real cheap.

Any hardware store should have them. They are available in several different sizes with lids

Ok cool thanks guys. I think I have actually found a local guy selling his brute setup for RO/DI water and saltwater already with bulkheads and valves installed. Thanks for all the help
