There are lots of variables. Internal or external? Sump size? Does it need to feed anything else? Pumping head height? How quiet does it have to be? Price range? Is added heat a concern?

preferably external have about 18" to play with sump is about 30 gallons does not feed anything else and height is about 41/2 feet as quiet as possible less than $250 low heat transfer if possible

Panworld 50PX-X would be one to look at, but the flow is high for a 30G sump. You could valve it back or maybe go with a 50PX

I've put a reeflo snapper on a 110 customers tank. Works great.. 2700 gph for 97 watts.

Internal Flowstar pump. Low watts, very quiet, great flow, less possibilty of leaks with internal. IMHO

i tried reeflo on my 150g but didnt like how fast the flow was through my refugium. I ended up with mag 12 just because i had it laying around, if i had the money i would have went with Panworld 50px-x

I run all Reeflo pumps, mostly Hammerheads. Even on HH's, you can valve down so almost no flow.

I try the Dart, and now the Snaper. They are powerful but noisy. I am talking about motor noise (the humming from the impeller noise), not the vibration. Not satisfy with them....

I'm not trying to sound mean or anything.. But,

Its always funny to me to hear things like this.. We are talking about pumps.

To compare a magnetic driven pump to a motor driven pump is interesting to me. They are two different beasts..

It comes down to..

If you want a super quite (but still with a hum from its motor), mag driven, lower flow, watt sucking pump. Go mag drives.

If you want a small but noticeable hum (combination from the motor and water), massive flow, low watt draw. Go with motor driven.

But to compare the two is apple and oranges. Just my opinion.
