Vertex IN-100 Info/Help

Hello folks, after a year I ran out of room in my 20g so I upgraded to a 40g tank. I have a Vertex IN-100 in the sump and was wondering what you guys think about this skimmer. What are peoples comments or concerns about it and if there is anything I need to know or do with this thing. Mine sounds a bit loud, but then again, I have never had any type of decent skimmer ever! Please help--- Thanks

"loud" is a little vague. Is it coming form the pump? does it sound like its internal or a vibration? The airline?

I havent owned one, but from what I hear they are a pretty good skimmer, should be plenty for your system. Gives us a little more insight into the sounds that you are hearing and we may be able to help a little more.

Loud as in a vibrating hummm from the pump. it doesn't sound anything like it was airline related like from a venturi line. More like a vibrating mechanical. Hope that helps...

I just purchased and setup this skimmer about 3 weeks ago. This is a great skimmer however the pump leaves much to be desired.

There is a gen 2 impeller that you can get for free which will quiet down the pump immensely and from what I can tell actually improve performance. You should contact the place you bought it from and see if they have any of the Gen 2 impellers available, if not contact Vertex and they will send you one.

Mish1 is the pump still noisy even after the impeller switch? Thanks for the help.
Anyone else have any input on the subject?

Initially when I first switched out the impeller it was a little noisy but after about an hour it was pretty much silent. I have been running the new impeller for about 5 days now and it is working great with very little noise.
