Nuuze's 90G
Hello All,
At the moment, I'm in the process of downgrading from a 200G to a 90G. I had thoughts of getting out of the hobby (again) but some good friends talked me into reconsidering and just downsizing. So here I am with a 90G! ![]() Tank is a 90G Oceanic Tech series (48.5" x 18.5" x 25") with Starphire. Stand is 36" high and canopy is 16" high both in black maple. I plan to doing the transition in the next couple weeks. ![]() Cool thing I didn't even noticed at the time of purchase was the canopy not only had doors in front but the top lifted up as well. This will be helpful on the warmer days. ![]() Sump is an Eshopps R-200 refugium sump and skimmer is a Vertex IN80. This is still up in the air since I think the skimmer may be a bit undersized. So I may trade it up to a larger model. ![]() ![]() More to come... Last edited by Nuuze; 09/19/2009 at 06:17 PM. |

Wow. This should look just as nice as your Elos in no time.

Thanks, guys!
Here are some stuff that came in the last couple days. ![]() For lighting I plan on using 2 VHO Super Actinics @ 46.5 length & 2-250w Radiums with Lumen Max Elite reflectors. Anyone know what the max flow of these overflow kits? I was thinking of using an Eheim 1260 for return pump. Maybe make a manifold to feed my phosban and calium reactor as well. Would the 1260 be enough? ![]() |

I plan on stocking LPS, SPS and Zoos. About 100 pounds of liverock and trying barebottom/no sand this time. If I don't like the barebottom I can slowly add sand later.

Did some more searching around on the MegaFlow Overflows and they list as 600 gph for each. So instead of a Eheim 1260 I go with the Eheim 1262. I want to make a manifold to feed a few things off the pump as well.

Tank all cleaned up and ready to fill.
![]() Stand drilled for overflow. ![]() Took me a while to figure how to hang these since they came with no instructions. But I mounted the brackets to the 1" plywood. Mounted the reflectors then mounted the plywood. ![]() |

I use three Lumen Max Elite reflectors. They are fantastic. Your new build is looking nice.

Nice, Mike...
It's great that you stayed and just down graded instead. Hey I did the same thing and it's a lot better and easier IMO. from my 100 to 37. Less water to mess with, more space in the living etc...

Thanks all for the kind words!
It was a long night last night. After work I stopped by HomeDepot for some lumber to mount the VHO's. Drained the 200g, phew! I think scooping 150 pounds of sand was the hardest part. ![]() Today I was able to invite about 8 people over for dinner. ![]() ![]() While out grabbing dinner I stopped by the LFS to trade up the Vertex 80 for the Alpha 170 Cone. This thing is gorgeous! Can't wait to see how much it skims. ![]() ![]() |

Looks great so far! Good call on upgrading the skimmer. The Vertex IN-80 would have been too small IMO.

HomeSlizzice, believe me. I been thinking long and hard what to do. But we'll see how this goes. I'm sure I will miss the Elos ![]() The Vertex Alpha 170 Cone looks so pretty with the red dragon pump. I'm not ready to get it dirty yet. ![]() Lighting is done! I had to elevate the VHO's past the Elite reflectors with 2x4's. ![]() |

Hmmm, lets see. The bulkheads say 1", the vinyl tubing says 1". Why the heck won't it fit?! Same goes for the 3/4". This is going to hurt...

Is the vinyl 1" inside diameter or outside diameter? If it's inside than it should fit with a little force, if it's outside than there is no way it's going on that.

With the VHO's the way you have them, wil the front bulb get too far in the way of the front doors to the canopy?
I like the canopy, pretty clean for all that light power! ![]()

Okay, maybe its due to not enough sleep. I thought the bulkheads were 1" & 3/4", but after measuring it was 1 1/4" & 3/4". The tubing was 1" & 5/8"... Back to the LFS...
The lighting does block the front door a bit but I can slightly lift the lid to elevate the lights up for any reaching far into the tank. |

Hi NateDizzle,
Thanks for the kind words! I almost got out due to a busy schedule with work, family, other things I wanted to do, etc. So the large tank was being neglected not looking as I wanted. A few close friends suggested of downsizing to an easier size. So ear I am. ![]() |

Starting to look like a tank again. Still routing wires and equipment.
![]() I always sucked at stacking rocks... ![]() Hmmm, that's all the room I have left. Still need to setup ATO reservoir & calcium reactor. ![]() Vertex is letting out microbubbles and pulsing. I see water pulsing about an inch into the air intake tube. I think I read something about it on the cone thread in the PA forum...but I asked Proline. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...4#post15765434 I also need to get an acrylic sheet for the skimmer to sit on. ![]() Last edited by Nuuze; 09/28/2009 at 01:00 AM. |
