it depends on what type of fish and what type of copper. Many fish can tolerate .5 ppm of cupramine safely while only tolerate .25 ppm of copper sulfate. Thereaputic levels are typically between .15 and .25 ppm for copper sulfate and .3-.5 ppm for cupramine. Some species will not tolerate thereaputic levels and therefore other treatments should be considered - chloroquin or hyposalinity for instance.

I have a bottle of Copper Power that contains 1.26% copper sulfate and the directions say to use at 2.5 ppm or one fluid ounce to each 20 gallons of water. On the bottle it says that it is 60 times less toxic to fish. This is quite a bit more than .25 ppm.
