cyano outbreak

I had some bad GHA and recently replaced my whole RODI system and started dosing vodka which got rid of the GHA (nitrates -0 phosphates -0) but now I have a huge cyano issue. My tank is 90gals with a modded k4, regular k4 and a k3 for flow plus an eheim 1260 return from my sump. Tank has been set up for over a year now. I was told that the Zeobak (http://www.jlaquatics.com/phpstore/s...t_ID=zv-bac010) would help with this issue, anyone have success with it? any other suggestions?

It's believed that too much vodka can foster in cyano. Try and cut back on vodka and find a happy medium between cyano and nitrates.

cyano isn't easy to beat imo, once it gets a foot hold it comes and goes, but easier than gha which you have already beaten, poor water quality and dead spots seem to be a factor in it hanging around. its weird stuff for sure

my problem was resolved with 4 weeks of 30% water changes

took a few months for me.. double volume of weekly changes. Lights out a few days at a time over a month.. and keep heavy flow everywhere.

VERY hard to get rid of... but can be done.

if it were me i wouldnt use the antibiotic since it will hurt ALLL your bacteria in your tank.

oh.. keep it blown OFF your corals or it can cause health issues with them.

with TDS 0 the waterchanges appear to be the way to go.

From my experience after my nitrates went down to 0. Cyano started popping up. Genetics and jenglish suggested that it's probably too high of a daily maintenance dose of vodka. So I cut back about 25% and it stopped growing. The theory is that cyano doesn't have any competition with algae because of the untraceable N03 and P04 so cyano runs rampad. And again it's just a thought, no scientific fact to back it up. But it worked for me and many others.

I do 20+ gal water changes every 2 weeks maybe i'll try cutting my vodka a bit.
