Pump Size And Brand For 200 Gallon
Any suggestions for an external pump for a 200gallon mixed reef. I have two large overflows. I need an external pump that is quiet as possible. I will but dont want to spend $500 plus for a Red Dragon, and dont want to have to deal with the heat created by a Posiedon. I have a large custon sump beneath my tank. I was planning to mount 2 PFO parallel reflectors in canopy but they are out of business and I cannot locate any in stock anywhere. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Aquatic tec was going to make some for me but after speaking with me on the phone like all was good they would not return any emails. Many of the online companies have terrible customer service and ordering procedures.
Thanks Randy |

Any external pump that does not add heat will have at least some fan noise. Reeflo makes fairly quiet pumps, although I personally do not consider them living room quiet.
On the Poseidons- I use one on my 120 gallon tank. They add no more heat than a submersible pump would of the same wattage- the 1 and 2 are 98 watts, the 3 and 4 are 140 watts. They are dead silent- but if you ae having heat troubles already, they are not for you. Otherwise, they would only raise the temp on a tank that size by 1 degree, 2 at the absolute most.

![]() To Reef Central As James posted, you wont get any quieter than the Poseidon pumps. They are basically silent. You dont have to spend a lot of $$ on a RD. There are other Askoll 1500 pumps available. The ATB Flo-Star 1500 for $220, the MSX FX1500 for $270, or a plain Askoll Max-Flo 1500 for $170
