bare bottom tank question

Im planning to setup a 90g but want to have it bare bottom. I was wondering would i need a refuge with a DSB and cheato or even a refuge at all? im not trying to have a fuge on the setup. I was thinking of just live rock in the sump, skimmer, and CA reactor.

Anyone have a bare bottom tank please put your specs if you dont mind.

Thanks!

you dont have to have anything. Heck you dont even Have to buy a skimmer really.. many people have kept tanks without all the latest and greatest. A fuge will help pull out some things you wouldnt want in your tank as well the sandbed . just make sure you have enough rock to act as the bio filter and do waterchanges you should be fine.. Lots of BB guys out there

I have a 135g FOWLR that I rub BB with 4 of those Koralia knockoffs for power heads. 1 on each side pointed toward the bottom to make sure nothing sits on the ground.

I have a 215bb with no fuge or remote deep sand bed. Just a sump, skimmer, and Ca reactor. Pretty darned basic and I like it that way.

Once every two weeks, I perform a power vacuuming of the tank. This is simply some filter floss rolled inside of a cut up coke bottle and placed on the intake of a Mag12 pump. Then I use a powerhead to blow off the rock and everything else. Makes a mess for an hour or so, but the water is sparkling clear the next day.

That's a good idea ! DIY water polisher ! I'm going to try it with a hose on the output, so I can blow off my live rock.

I've been BB for about 2 years in my 75g. I have a 20g sump with a skimmer and my heaters. I drip kalk but am thinking of adding an autofilling topoff reservior with a kalk stirrer. The way my PHs are arranged, all the crud collects in one area for easy siphoning. If it builds up too much prior to water change time, I put a filter sock in the sump and siphon from the display into that.
