Re-thought/planned Set Up Final Comments
Original set up was going to be:
Tank inside house. Plumbing going thru wall into garage. Sump and all equipment on a work bench. I have the tank, stand, sump and pump. 120 gal tank- 48x24x24. Holes- 2" drain, 4- 3/4" returns. Two drilled in the top corners of back panel and two drilled 6" from the bottom of overflow. EuroFil 240 Sump. 31 gals. 36x12.5x16. Reeflo super Dart Gold. Plan 1: Plumb tank thru wall. Drill the Sump for the external pump. In sump skimmer. (Still need to buy). The Super Dart Gold to run entire tank. No internal pumps for circulation due to high flow rate of Super Dart Gold. Possible Problems with this set according to some of your opinions: The overflow was not ordered specifically for this pump. It is a standard size center overflow. The Super Dart Gold is way overkill. Millions of micro bubbles due to the extreme flow ripping through the sump and skimmer. Heat issues due to the 20 degree temperature differences in the garage vs. house. Chiller will be always on in summer and heater always on in winter. Poor insulation in garage. New Plan: Would this be better for my situation? 1) Order 2 Eheim 1262's for flow. Sump under stand inside the house. Chiller next to stand. If additional flow is needed, 2 Vortex MP40's. One Ehim pump for top two returns and then the second Eheim run thru the chiller then to the other bottom two returns in the over flow. Or 2 Eheim 1262's for returns and the chiller runs of a seperate QuietOne 3000. Three pumps total. This is my first tank and I relied on my LFS for their advice. I did not anticipate all the problems that come with the first option. And it was recommended by some of you to re-think this set up. But no one chimed in the the right or best way to go. So I went to VividAquariums.com and looked at their System Diagram for help. Also, is the Eheim 1262's the way to go? What about Tunzee Pumps are they better. Soory about the long thread but I want to hire someone this week for a Saturday installation. Costly about $75 per hour and was told it would be 6 hours. But first a consultation fee of $75.00. Just need to order the pumps and skimmer today. And return the new Super Dart Gold. Thx Last edited by Airborne; 09/28/2009 at 10:23 AM. Reason: Bold Subject |

The 1262's are good pumps. Quiet and efficient.
If it were my tank, I would do the following. Use 1 eheim for sump to return. Make a closed loop with the other ehiem putting the chiller in the loop... I would also put the chiller in the garage. The chiller will only move heat from the tank into the room that the tank sits in when it is in the living area. This should be a simple closed loop with an entrance and exit plumbed into the tank (not through the overflow). Hope that helps !

OR......
2 Ehiems. Use the sump for both. One return plumbed straight from sump to return via Eheim #1. The other pump Eheim #2 to the chiller in the garage and back to the other return. The 3rd pump will just add electricity and heat to the tank.

Eheim Pumps
Thanks for the input. What about the heat difference between the garage and the house. There is at times maybe a 15 degree temp difference.
