Intermision's 28g Reef

Tank: 28g Odyssea tank
Mechanical Filter: Marineland 350 without the biowheels, custom micron cartridges
Lighting: Odyssea 250w MH w/ lunar lights

Fish: Sixline wrasse
CUC: 3 margarita snails, 1 emerald crab

History: This has been setup for about a year, but I just started adding more livestock recently.

My goal with this tank is to keep everything as simple as possible. After having a 68g with a fuge and protein skimmer I wanted to have a simple tank.

I do a %20 water change once a week, and sometimes an extra %10 if I have the time.

I target feed Reef Nutrition Oyster Feast 4-5 times a week

WOW! Nice tank! I love simple tanks, just goes to show you you don't have to have all the newest stuff to have a nice tank!

Built a little air driven protein skimmer out of a gravel vac a ug filter lift tube and an old fish food container. So far it seems to be working pretty good for being free. The best part is you can barely see it.

In terms of order of introduction, it's best to place the Lemonpeels last, as they can become quite territorial for their smallish size.

I wasn't even really planning on buying anything, but then I saw him and had to get him.

Some people where asking about how I built the skimmer so.

To build the skimmer all I did was to cut a hole in the end of the gravel vac approximately the same size as the lift tube. I then did the same for the bottom of the fish food container. I used some silicone to hold it together, drill a hole towards the bottom for airline to go through to put in an air stone, and I was done. Oh and you want to make the body tube as long as possible, since mine is in my filter I had to cut it shorter than I would have liked.

This is what it skimmed in about 8 hrs, I'm still tuning it in so it's a little wet but it definitely stinks.

Ok, now for a question. I thinking about turning the other half of the filter into a chaeto area. I'm just trying to figure out the bast way to light it up. I'd like to be able to keep everything under the filter cover. I was thinking about something like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/1-Puck-10W-Halogen-Und...=item2a01af0806
Since it bumps it down tho 12v it makes mr feel a little safer about putting it near water. Any ideas on the subject?

Do you have to leave the cover on the filter? Perhaps if you didn't, your MH would light your chaeto, and you wouldn't have to worry about another light. Are you looking at chaeto for nutrient reduction, breeding pods, both?

I'd like to leave it on so it looks better. But I'll check tomorrow to see how much light gets back there.

I have a new project for the tank, a foam background.

I just have to finish coating it in epoxy.
