"marine" epoxy reef safe?
Saw "Marine Epoxy" for underwater curing etc at Home Depot, but didn't realize if it was considered reef safe or not.

Yup,used it many times.
But,I'm liking the new aquarium epoxy that's purple colored like coralline algae. Looks a lot less like a marshmallow squished under the frag plug.

Jim that is not the stuff I used.
The stuff I used was putty and was one of its uses was for repairing boat hulls. It came in a tube just like aquamend. |

I know loctite (I think that's the name) brand stuff is reef safe. I have used the marine stuff but I find it MUCH cheaper to use their normal epoxy (playdough type stuff). It stinks bad like you are going to kill everything in your tank but I have used it on tanks as small as 10g to get a frag disk stuck to live rock (with a coral frag on it) and it didn't phase a thing.

"Two little fishes" coralline colored putty is cheap on line. Marine depot/aquacave/aquarium specialty etc. The best puttys to use are cyanoacrylate putty.Anything with methacrylate esters will effect your water negatively (very high DOCs).

If I am reading this thread right that is NOT the one to use. I use the aquamend from home depot with good luck.

I have just finished using a tube of Two Little Fishes aquastik to try to mount corals to my live rock and found it to be horrible. I kneaded it for a full minute per instructions and then tried to mount a orange cap that had come loose to the face of a rock. I wiggle it well to get a nice seat and held it for a full five minutes and it never hardens up. I am doing this submerged, but the instructions say it works submerged. Even after a full 24 hours the epoxy never hardened.
Am I liable to get better results trying aquamend from HD? The TLF epoxy just isnt cutting it. |
