How about bacteria additives to re-cycle new tank?
I have to redo my LR. I accidentally got what I thought was just a little soap in my new Nano-Cube. I decided to drain the water and start over. It's a good thing I did because the filter media were covered with soap bubbles.
I still have to figure out how to drain the remaining water from the back compartment that the hose won't get. Would it be safe to put new face towels in there to absorb the rest of the water? The LR I took out yesterday now stinks so I guess it'll have to be re-cured. I only have nine pounds of it ($53.00) for my 28g tank. I have to buy at least 20 more pounds anyway. I'm thinking of just buying Marco Rocks pre-cycled dry rock or something similar (any suggestions?) which I think has to be cured still. It's cheaper than my LFS by a lot, and guaranteed pest free. Would I need to use a heater to re-cure the rock? The weather is starting to get cooler. If I want to speed up the cycle, could I use a bacteria like Bio-Spira or Dr. Tim's to safely do so? If so, could I go ahead and stock my fish and invertebrates right away? Would I just be better off waiting for the LR to cure on its own? I'd like to get started before it gets too cold in South Louisiana. It got down to 63 degrees today but it could go back up to the high seventies until November. |

Sadly, I don't know anyone, and I'm steering clear of LFS water. Should I just just use all systems on my Nano-Cube, including the wavemaker, skimmer, and lights? |

i got cured live rock from premium aquatics. my tank cycled super fast. they arent terribly cheap, but if you overnight the rock you will have less die off.
unfortunately salt tanks require a lot of patience. its killing me i have to wait a while to get an RBTA, but i know if i dont, it will probably die and i will have to start over btw, it was smart to start over if you had soap in the tank.

Thanks everyone. I will check out LR from online sources and just wait for the tank to cycle. I'm not looking forward to a smelly bedroom but the wait will be edifying (I hope).
