Adding dead rock to established system

I have a bunch of dead rock that I want to add to my system. It was cycling in a 5g bucket but when I realized I wouldn't have the funds to set up my 90g I let it all dry out.. Been dry for a couple months now... Will I have any problems with just rinsing it off real well and throwing it into my tank? Do I NEED to cook it?

Just add it you wont have any problems.

people over think this stuff because there worried about a tank crash

I wouldn't go so far as to say overthink... How much of the dead rock are you planning to put in there? What percentage of your total rock will it make up? Something like 10% = fine. 90% = not so fine.

nah it's only maybe 10lbs of rock. I've got between 120-150lbs in there currently. However my younger brother is setting up a tank so I may be giving him 10-15lbs of LR to speed up his cycle.

I have added many pounds of dead rock to my tank with no problem. If your tank is fully cycled with plenty of live rock already it should handle any organic material still in the rock without any problem.

i bombed my 10gallon by adding 1 pece of rock that I had that was dried out for about 6 months and also put it in the oven. But it dosen't take much to mess a 10 gallon system up lol.

Unless there are contaminants such as chemicals that could have made it on there, you will be just fine as said before.

I think it is a good idea to soak it in salt water for a day, then blast it off with a hose. The dry rock I have used in the past had quite a bit of dried material on it that came off after I soaked and cleaned it.

yea i would add, small amount, you could always add slowly too...

Unfortunately it hit a reef. Current Tank Info: 110 gallon reef display tank, fish, LPS, SPS and mushrooms. A 75 gallon sump in basement with protein skimmer, 40watt UV sterilizer, RO/DI, refugium with chaeto, phosban reactor. 40 gallon frag tank.
