Vortec MP40
I am in need of additional flow in Display Tank. I was thinking of buying the above. However, I have noticed that there is a big demand for the wet side. Do these pumps fail frequently? If so, what else do you recommend? Thx |

I have 3 on a 180g and I love them..When they first came out there were some problems with the wet sides but Ecotech has continued to make improvements. I keep a couple extra wet sides for back up when cleaning the others. Just soak them vinegar every once in awhile and they are good to go. I have been using the Vortechs since they came out and will continue to.

The more I read the more I realize EcoTech is a pretty good company. Always improving their product(s). Now if we could just get them to lower the price a bit

A+ company. great cs
i have 2 mp40ws and enjoy them a lot. they don't run as quiet as an internal pump would, but they are great powerheads that offer a lot of flexibility. expensive .. ya.. B

I would use two on a 120 and the battery back up is nice. You can always cut the flow back if you need to. I had two on my 120 and when I upgraded to the 180g I went to three plus two battery back ups.

Do you think 1 MP40 would be too much for a 60 gallon? and what is the advantage of having the battery back up?
