Question Nano CLub, Large Reeft Tank Club...What about us in the middle??

OK, so there might be other rants about this, or I am just blind. How come under special intrest forums there is not a forum for people with 50-100 gallon tanks. I am officially leaving the Nano community with the set-up of my 75 this week, and was looking for a place to explore other set ups of the same size.
With that being said...any one in-between Nano and Large tanks post your reef tanks
I had a typo with reef in my title, and I can't edit it, argh.

'Us in the middle' are all the rest of the tank discussion forums! I'd say post in either NTTH or Reef Discussion and you'll find lots of hobbyists with 'in between' tank sizes.

I completely agree with your point of view, but unfortunately, the mods do not. I started a very similar thread a while back and it got ugly quickly. For whatever reason this is an issue that they are just not willing to re-examine. They feel that the reef discussion and new to the hobby forums cover the "normal" tanks, and that we don't need anywhere to post specifics to our systems...somewhere that they don't get buried under hundreds f pages...JME

Hmm, well I am not looking for anything to get "ugly" lol
I just really enjoyed the Nano Reef forum and getting information on my 20L , I was just hoping for something a little more specific with the 75. I think it would give a more community feel to us "in the middle"

the argument against what you are asking about is the snowball effect it would create. say they did a specialized forum for 75g tanks.. then the 40B people would ask for a 40B forum, the 55 folks for their 55 forum, etc...

i understand where you're coming from but i see the point they make as well. another option to you is to start a build thread, use the size in the title, and it will likely attract folks with similar sized tanks.

All that is needed is a forum between the nano (34Gal I believe) and the larger tanks. I asked this question a few months ago and my thread got locked. Big brother doesnt like us to talk about this so shhhhhhhhhh

I mentioned this to mods before. They actually consider anything under 180 gallons a nano based on the forum titles.

"Large Reef Tanks (136 Viewing)
A forum for people interested in keeping large reef tanks. This forum is dedicated to water volumes of 180 gallons and larger".

"Nano Reefs (45 Viewing)
A forum for people interested in keeping nano reef tanks".

I can't find my message, but I was telling them to make a forum for I believe 75 to 180 since they consider 180 and larger to be a large reef and as I stated, under 180 gallons as a nano.

They only need to create one more forum. 75, 80 or 90 gallon to 180.

Done.

rc considers 34g and under a nano. please see the rc mod post here: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...t+makes+a+nano

here is his quote:
"The original intent of the nano tank forum was to provide a place for those who keep smaller tanks. These smaller tanks have requirements and restrictions imposed on the owners not common to Aquarists with larger tanks. What was a small group of people with small tanks has grown exponentially into a larger group with even larger tanks.

After receiving feedback from members and after thorough discussion among the staff we've decided to limit posting in the Nano forum to tanks with a main tank of 34 gallons and under. No distinction will be made for conventional tanks or All In One tanks (AIO), or for sump sizes no matter what they may be.

This is not an attempt by RC Staff to set standards in the hobby or redefine a nano tank. It is an attempt to serve our members best and still maintain the relevance of this forum."

this being said, what is needed is a forum for 34-180.

I didnt realize this was such a heated debate...
I don't see anything wrong with making 2 different forums maybe the lower and higher ends between 34-180 I am sure it is a bigger pain in the a$$ for mods and admins but I think it would give more relaitability between tank owners. If it is such a big deal we can forget I mentioned it

i don't mean to come off like that, but it's a subject that has been hashed out numerous times and the end result is always the same. like i said before, i get the point you guys are making. heck, i'd LOVE to have a subforum for 40 breeders, but it's not gonna happen so i'm left with what we have.

you see, the thing is that this does keep coming up. over and over and over because it is needed here. after all the posts regarding this, the time spent by the mods with this question it could have been resolved by now. I love rc. It has taught me much more then I could ever expect or repay but the fact still stands. this hobby is a very specialized one and so should the forums IMO as well as many others or tis issue wouldnt be coming up over and over and over again. IMO

This really should have been in the Feedback and Questions Forum........and is an example of what is going on with the other threads that don't belong were they are at........

From what I understand and partially decribed above, most tank build threads were of only the larger tanks when the trend started. Being bigger, more expensive, in which the topcis didn't directly apply to everyone....it was created.

The nano crowd has thier own simmilar set of issues and that sprang up.

The "middle childeren" have always been here...and honestly I don't remember so many build threads before of the "average" tanks.........However, given all the other things that are going on......I doubt a third one will be created anytime soon

Typically the "middle childeren" should be found in ones local RC forum, Reef Discussion, or ones blog as they aren't "special interest" per se and apply to all.

Should we have one place for tank builds, or three for that matter? Sure, why not.....but when does it stop.....one for nano SPS tank builds, one for medium tank LPS builds....etc. Then everyone is spread out in their own little "corners" playing by themselves.......limiting your chances for constructive input....and not helping one another out.

Until something can be done,if at all, do what you can by placing these threads in thier proper places.....so other RC members don't have to trip over them looking for what they need......
